14 FEBRUARY 2017 - In terms of specific challenges we are noticing in the industry, one is the evolving needs of businesses and consumers and their increasing demand for faster and more efficient delivery services. This trend is putting pressure on logistics players and how quickly they can leverage innovative technologies to keep pace with the needs of their customers.
With this in mind, we at Aramex, understand the importance of technological innovation. It not only enables us to fulfill deliveries efficiently and effectively but execute our wider corporate strategy and asset-light business model.
We are strategically investing in technology in a variety of ways. For example, in 2016 we launched our mobile app for consumers to improve their overall delivery experience, giving them the option to live-track their package, make in-app payments and schedule deliveries. We have also partnered with "what3words", the global address system, to reach more customers in off-the-grid locations. This partnership has allowed us to use the address system in our e-commerce fulfillment operations and provide our couriers with better access and reach to our customers.
In addition to that and in line with government’s efforts to encourage companies to use technology to raise productivity, we have launched in December of last year a fully automated express hub facility, which is located at Changi North near Singapore Changi Airport. The facility is equipped with the latest technologies for express parcel sorting and processing. It can process up to 3,000 shipments and documents per hour during the peak processing window, using an automated conveyor belts and other systems.
In the year ahead, we will continue to identify strategic opportunities and partnerships for leveraging innovative technologies to extend our global reach, increase our customer base and enhance internal business operations.
