Event seeks to build partnerships that stimulate cross-border eCommerce growth throughout the region
19 March 2015, (Singapore) – The first ever Last Mile Fulfilment Asia 2015 (LMFAsia) exhibition and conference opened today, bringing together representatives from the Fulfilment ecosystem including Retail, eCommerce, Logistics and Parcel industries, to discuss strategies and build partnerships that stimulate cross-border eCommerce growth.
The event was officiated by Guest-of-Honour, the Chief Executive of International Enterprise Singapore, Mr. Teo Eng Cheong, who spoke about the impact of digitisation trends that have shaped online consumer purchasing behaviour. He also discussed Singapore’s position as a hub for global and regional players looking for new eCommerce opportunities across the region.
“Singapore’s excellent logistics and fulfilment infrastructure has enabled companies such as Alibaba to invest $313 million into Singapore Post as it seeks to gain entry into ASEAN. Recently, DHL announced its decision to locate its South Asia hub in Singapore. Confidence in Singapore’s state-of the-art facilities and capabilities, coupled with excellent sea and air connectivity, and an efficient and transparent customs, strengthens our position as the e-Commerce and e-Fulfilment hub of the region,” he remarked.
According to research by eMarketer in 2014, Asia Pacific has overtaken North America to become the world’s largest regional eCommerce market, with a total spending of over US$500 billion. This figure is projected to grow by an annual average of 35% to reach US$860 billion by 2016. LMFAsia was conceptualised to address the challenges that have risen from evolving consumer demand, which may impede growth. The conference also seeks to assess new opportunities that can help realise the full potential of eCommerce within the region.
Malcolm Monteiro, Chief Executive Officer of DHL eCommerce Asia Pacific commented that "The anticipated eCommerce growth in the Asian market will give ‘shopping’ a whole new meaning: order from anywhere, deliver to anywhere. The last mile is vital to create a positive online shopping experience. DHL eCommerce is pleased to discuss with other leaders in the e-commerce field on the Last Mile Fulfillment Asia platform how e-commerce service providers can optimize the experience for both, merchants and consumers.”
“Logistics is a challenge in Southeast Asia with its undeveloped infrastructure, geographic diversity and scattered logistics networks serving as a barrier to fulfil last mile delivery quickly and efficiently. As a company that prides itself on delivering effortless shopping and selling to both consumers and sellers, LMFAsia is a timely platform to discuss how the industry can address these issues”, remarked Pierre Poignant Regional Chief Operating Officer, Lazada Group.
Chief Executive Officer of SingEx Holdings, Aloysius Arlando, says “Over the last few years, the growth in eCommerce sales in Asia-Pacific has been staggering. At the same time, companies are facing challenges in fulfilling the delivery of online orders across multiple geographical areas. LMFAsia seeks to bring last mile fulfillment companies together as we work collectively towards achieving seamless cross-border fulfillment for all.”
Organised by SingEx Exhibitions with the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore as a strategic partner and A.T. Kearney as a knowledge partner, LMFAsia 2015 will be held from 19 - 20 March at MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO. More than 60 speakers from 12 countries across Asia, the United States and Europe will be featured at the two-day conference. The exhibition will showcase integrated warehouse, fleet and payment management solutions alongside the latest in fulfilment technologies made available by leading regional and domestic fulfilment players, for example customised packaging and automated pick-and-pack solutions.
